An art project for you to participate in - exhibited November 25th - White Ribbon Day.

Be the first contributors to an exciting new art project to tell the world about abuse and disability.

The National Network of Stopping Violence Services is launching the Clothes Line Project – a visual record of the abuse of people with disabilities and mental illness.

The Clothesline Project will be officially launched in Wellington on White Ribbon Day, 25th November, 2009.

Prior to the launch they are trying to get as many disabled people (they acknowledge that this includes women who feel like they’ve been driven mad) who have experienced one or more forms of domestic violence by family or caregivers, to write or draw some aspect of their abuse and/or healing onto a garment. This needs to be in Wellington before November 25th to be included on the inaugral clothes line.

The only ‘rules’ are that the garments are colour coded – this is to tell the story of the ways that people are abused.

Here is the Colour Coding for the campaign. These colours
apply to disabled/crazy women, children and men. They deal principally
with the type of domestic violence, rather than the types of victims.

White               = death from violence
Yellow/Beige        = assault
Red/Pink            = sexual assault and incest - adults
Blue                = sexual abuse/incest - children
Green               = psychological abuse
Purple/Lavender     = hate violence, bullying
Grey                = financial abuse
Orange              = institutional abuse

Each person provides a garment of her own to write/draw some aspect of their abuse and/or healing for the Clothesline. This can be any garment you, want, of any colour.

The NNSVS is developing a disability logo based on the black triangle that
Hilter/Nazis used to identify disabled people for extermination,
(600,000 of us) It will go onto all garments.

You send your completed garment to
